All New Warfare 2016 – Week 36

The Protectorate of Menoth continues its god-like dominance over Gears And Games with Severius leading their righteous crusade! Forces of Mercenaries, led by Gorten Grundback and the Traitor Warlord, Magnus, and Khador, led by Kommander Sorscha and Kommander Orsus Zoktavir, have tried to invade Gears And Games but have failed to even get a substantial foothold in the region. Forces of Cryx and Trollbloods have also been spotted, raiding the outskirts region of Gears And Games. The Soul Weaver, Deneghra, as well as Ragnar Skysplitter and the Hunters Grim, have all made strong attempts to shatter the Protectorate’s hold, but have all been unsuccessful! More and more followers of Menoth flock towards the Gears And Games Grand Cathedral City, built in honor of the Creator!

All photos above by Mike Ang.

Battles between the Convergence of Cyriss and Mercenaries have erupted at the House Of Geek! Will these skirmishes break the Legion of Everblight’s control over House Of Geek? Ashlynn D’Elyse have been meeting the forces of the Convergence head on, but have been defeated by the Forge Master Syntherion and the Iron Mother Directrix. The Dark Prince of Umbrey challenged the Forge Master and has successfully repelled the Convergence warcaster in their encounter. With Khador’s vaunted heavy warjacks, Vladimir Tzepesci dispatched what seemed to be the initial construction of a Convergence node.

Posting some results from last Mondays Holiday Rumble.

We tested the Rumble format with:

Vlad1 (me) against Kreoss1 (Ayo). My list primarily was a fun list with some All Star ‘Jack team of Beast-09, Behemoth and Drago. Drago was not as strong as he was though.

After systematically killing Kreoss’ Cinerators, two of the Menite jacks were reduced to one box each with the armor piercing punches from the Behemoth.

In the last turn, Vlad himself charged Kreoss in a caster-to-caster duel which led to Kreoss’ destruction!

Khador wins!

Another game I failed to take pictures of was the one with Plim.

It was a battle between Vlad1 (me) and Syntherion (Paul). I used the same fun list (but the Convergence had a colossal because Plim tried to powergame me).

This game was a very short one because by turn 2 clear charge lanes towards the Prime Axiom from Behemoth and Beast-09 made it so juicy to use Vlad’s feat and boom! We were in the Colossal’s face! Beast-09 bringing the Ice Axe down on the Prime Axiom and dealing severe Pow19 hits while the Behemoth finished the job.

At this point Plim conceded.

I think the Rumble format is a very good Khadoran format.

Third battle was between Pork and Plim. This was Ashlyn (Pork) vs Syntherion (Plim). Was not really watching the game since I was busy battling Kreoss at the time.

Banners of Khador still fly over Charlie Does Manila as forces of the Motherland have begun construction of a railway central station, but a strong Retribution of Scyrah spearhead has been spotted, led by the Incissar of the Dawnguard, Vyros, himself! Forces of the Protectorate of Menoth, as well as Circle Orboros and Minions have been more visible in their invasions into Charlie Does Manila as well! Skorne’s Supreme Aptimus Zaal, Circle Orboros’ Baldur the Stonecleaver have all fallen to Vyros’ Tide Of War! Only the Protectorate of Menoth’s Burning Truth, Malekus, stands defiant in the face of these overwhelming odds!

All New Warfare 2016 – Week 35

One of the rare Sundays where players converge to play, and Warmachine/Hordes Philippines get visitors from Bacolod and Canada! Gears And Games was a full house with Gears And Games/Fortress’ Head Honcho Mike Ang, Kim Navarro, Gino Cobarrubias, Mike Taroy, Dan Tesoro, House Of Geek’s Karlo Piscano, FigAce’s Harold Soon; and from Bacolod, Ruffa Pusta and Dominique Cabrol; and on their honeymoon trip from Canada, Paolo Miguel and Marina Uy (with a very nice gift – a bottle of Sortilege Maple Whiskey)! Good games, good stories and good cheer all around!

Forces of the Protectorate of Menoth only grow stronger with each passing week as they keep their solid hold over Gears And Games! Forces from Khador and the Retribution of Scyrah attempt to expand into Gears And Games from the south, and Mercenary forces continue their attacks, but all have been deftly pushed back!

More traffic, more rain. Charlie Does Manila Warmachine crew still playing Warfare games. What else is new, right? Well, a couple of things: JR Roxas’ Protectorate of Menoth has escalated with the addition of new models, Gino Cobarrubias trying out Garryth, Blade of Retribution, and Manu Rabaglia is taking out his Minions for a spin!

Friday; August 26, 2016 – Charlie Does Manila

Construction of a Khadoran supply port has begun in Charlie Does Manila. Once completed, it will be easier for Khador to reinforce and replenish its war-time resources in that territory. Retribution and Protectorate forces continue to engage the forces of the Motherland and slow its expansion.

Ios has sent another of its warcasters into the fray – this time, Garryth, the Blade of Retribution. He is met with great opposition as the Thornfall warlock, Sturm and Drang, and the Kommandant himself, Gurvaldt Irusk, have joined the theater of war at Charlie Does Manila.

Will Khador continue to hold Charlie Does Manila in its iron fist?

The horns of war ring once more as the Convergence of Cyriss, led by the Iron Mother Directrix, assaults a peaceful settlement in the House Of Geek. Coming to the rescue was a Mercenary warband led by Ashlynn d’Elyse herself! But with machine precision, the forces of the Convergence have managed to hold much ground already, as the Mercenaries’ counter attack was too little, too late. Will this battle wake the slumbering forces of the ruling Legion of Everblight?

PRE GAME THOUGHTS

I honestly did not have any actual pre-game thoughts like what to expect and what to do against Manu’s list per se since its the first time we’re playing in MK3 and I have no prior ideas on how to fight against his Wold War list. In essense however I did want to originally win via scenario and I did know I had to kill his warbeasts asap.

DEPLOYMENT

Manu rolled high but opted to make me play first. Not knowing how Manu would deploy I opted for a strong center with the Sentinels midfield supported by a manticore to their left with Kae, Sylyss and two arcanists behind them. I opted to deploy the two light warjacks on the flank with a single aracanist to support them.

Manu also opted for a strong center with Baldur and three of his heavies facing my sentinel wall directly and his reeves and lanyssa hiding behind the forest.

For my AD I place eiyriss and the ghost sniper on the left, the MHSF at the center and Narn and the MHA on the right flank. Hopefully to harass Manu’s forces long enough for my sentinels to deliver the charge.

Manu’s AD from what I can observe serves to protect his Wold War units by puitting in the Wold watchers and shifting stones in the cetner, the sentry stone on the forest and the waywatcher on the opposite side.

Round 1 Summary

As usual I run everything forward starting with the MHSF, I actually wanted to use these guys as bait for an early Baldur feat since I set most of my guys back. I’ve been using MHSF as roadblocks moreoften nowadays. I follow them up by running the light jacks next to them as support after the arcanist giving the chimera an extra focus for defense. Then I just walk eiyriss and the sniper forward near the flag for some shooting opportunities. The sentinels and manicore run up behind the hill. Kae moves forward and casts Banishing ward on the sentinels and refuge on herself.
The Arcanists and sylys run forward.

On Manu’s turn he runs his reeves behind the forest, advance the mannikins forward and spray’s two of my MHSF killing them and creates forests to block my path. The wold warden moves forward and creates a forest for Baldur, Lanyssa, the Waywatcher, wilder and the stone keeper to hide behind. He pops his feat this turn and runs the megalith and advances the wold watchers and wold guardian forward.

Since I managed to bait the early feat; which I’m not really sure if it was worth it actually, I decided to hope for an early casterkill with my remaining MHSF advanced them to  create a wall to prevent the warbeasts from trampling through my lines, then popped their mini-feat and fired all my shots at Baldur dealing about 8 damage from 9 shots.

I then activated the MHA and charged the sentry stone instantly killing it with the weaponmaster and charge bonus + decapitate. Narn advances to the edge of baldur’s feat and pops a shot on one of the woldwatchers.the chimera and griffon advance to hide narn from the reeves. Completely pointless IMHO since i forgot he had stealth.

I then advanced Eiyriss and the Ghost Sniper and popped two shots at the woldwatcher dealing 6 damage removing his most of his spirit. The arcanists on the left give the manticore two focus and it advances forward to try and shoot the damaged woldwatcher on my left, I managed to get Rof 2 for that turn and easily hit the woldwatcher with two boosted damage rolls taking out all of his spirit and managing to deal some damage on his mind.

Kaelyssa activates advances forward just enough to see the damaged wold watcher fires two shots stealing two fury and then refuges into base to base with the flag then pops feat. The sentinels simply run forward behind the MHSF to prevent tramples.

It’s my feat turn on Manu’s half of the round and I was really hoping that I wouldn’t lose to attrition at least on this round. So manu’s turn begins, first he recovers baldur’s hp from the megalith’s animus and uses the shifting stones to heal the damaged warbeasts and advances both woldwatchers and the megalith into my MHSF wall and kills nearly everything except for the UA and 3 other guys creating forests with a couple of them; this would have been harder had the megalith not been there reducing everyone’s def by two.

The Guardian and warden hang back and create a wall for baldur to protect him. The reeves and the reeves solo approach he MHA hoping to kill her by getting within 5 inches of her to negate stealth; luckily for me he only manages to get 3 of the reeves within 5 and misses most of his shots keeping the MHA at a good 3 boxes.

Lanyssa moves near the forest and uses her ability that removes pathfinder for any unit within 9 if im not mistaken removing the griffon’s and MHA’s pathfinder for next turn. The stone keeper activates and tries to catch narn in an aoe but only manages to do a fair amount of damage to the chimera’s shield and dealing 1 point of damage to narn.

I keep upkeeping refuge on my turn and at this point I realized I was stupid and forgot to move sylys last turn so i dont get the free upkeep. I allocate 1 focus to the manticore and realize that both light warjacks were out of control so I dont get the free focus from power-up too. Mistakes like that happen sometimes even with pre-measuring.

For this turn my goal was to kill his warbeasts as much as possible. I begin by declaring a run/charge order with My MHA and attack the Woldwatcher on my right; three of them do a fair amount of damage but I was really hoping they would kill him to clear the way. I then activate the griffon and walk him up to the side to open a path for Narn and poke the watcher; still not enough to kill him. Narn finally charges with acrobatics and at that point I was sure that I would have killed it but RNGesus failed me and gave me double ones for a to hit roll on the back with mat 8.

Eiyriss advances forward behind the Megalith(note the wreck marker is a proxy base because we couldn’t keep the megalith steady on the hill) and fires a shot at the badly damaged watcher. I tried to do the same with the ghost sniper but he couldn’t get a clear LOS so i opted to shoot at the shifting stone. I’m not sure If i should have just shot the stones with Eiyriss too.

Kaelyssa activates and does 3 hit and run shots against the damaged woldwatcher but fails to do significant damage and just sits back to dominate the objective.

The sentinels activate and charge the damaged woldwatcher and the megalith. I was hoping to kill both so the Manticore could charge the guardian but shame i only managed to fit in 3 sentinels on the megalith and only managed to bring it down to 1 hp if I’m not mistaken. I do kill the watcher though which was absolutely guaranteed at that point.

So i then activate the arcanists and empower and concentrated power on the manticore. I thought I had a smart idea by throwing the megalith towards the guardian to knock it down, I was actually hoping to catch Baldur but I didn’t have enough range. I managed to throw him successfully with boosted attack and damage rolls and kill the megalith; and dealing minor damage to the guardian.

I end my turn with 1 CP for dominating the flag.

I forgot to take pictures for most of Manu’s half due to the intensity of the battle at this point but I’ll try to remember the events as close as possible.

Manu heals the damaged woldwatcher and manages to kill narn a MHSF and the UA. He uses the waywatcher and kills narn with a spell. and uses the reeve solo to kill my MHA. He then walks his Woldwarden and completely wrecks the chimera. The Reeves then advance and fire shots at the lone Arcanist and kills it.

His Woldguardian then activates and initially he was hoping to trample the line of sentines but I was on mini-feat turn at that point and he was fearing that if he fails to kill alot of the sentinels from the trample the freestrikes might kill his guardian so Manu simply opts to advance and kill 6 of my sentinels.

Finally he activates Baldur advances to his flag and follows up with the shifting stones to block line of sight to Baldur.

Round ends with us tied at 1-1

My memory from this point on is a bit foggy so forgive me for that.

My turn I do my venegeance moves and hit the guardian and deal minor damage. upkeep refuge. I activate the arcanists and give two focus to the manticore, the sentinels activate and charge the woldguardian nearly killing it but their lack of numbers didn’t finish it off. I activate the remaining MHSF and attempt to block of the woldwatcher’s path trying to kill it but failing to do any significant amount of damage.

Eiyriss and the ghost sniper activate, advance and try to take shots at the woldwatcher, they hit but 6 damage still wasn’t enough to kill it.

The manticore fires about 2 shots on the woldwarden but fails to deal any significant amount of damage.

The badly damaged griffon moves back hoping that I could reach an arcanist the next turn.

I end my turn with 2CP

For Manus turn he advances the reeves forward. Kills the remaining two MHSF with the watcher and Baldur. Advances the wayfarer and kills the ghost sniper with a spray. He then uses the woldguardian to kill the remaining sentinels leaving the bannerman.

He charges the griffon with his woldwarden and kills it with his charge attack and second initial and then buys an attack to kill the sentinel bannerman.

He ends his turn leaving us both at 2-2.

Round 5 Summary

I completely forget to take pictures of round 5.

Round five begins with me upkeeping refuge and keeping all of Kae’s focus. I see that I still have my soulless alive and declare a charge to the woldwatcher to keep it from charging my manticore however i deal no damage against it.

Kae advances 6″ forward and fires three shots into the unit of reeves and kills one due to poor rolling and refuges back to the objective with 5 focus.
Eiyriss advances to toe in the zone and fires a shot at the woldguardian. The two arcanists move a few inches back to support the Manticore and give it two focus fire all two shots with boosted damage on the woldguardian finally killing it. Then firing the last shot with a boosted attack roll against lanyssa.

I end my turn with Kae Dominating the flag putting the score at 3-2

At this point Manu was hoping for an assassination run. He attempted to channel a spell through his woldwarden but opted not to due to the range and simply ran it forward.

He then advanced the wayfayer and hoped to kill Eiyriss with a spray hoping to kill her but luckily for me he missed his attack roll. He tries to do the same with his Reeve solo but also missed. Finally hoping to get the assassination he advances the shifting stones and teleports the stonekeeper near my arcanist; kills it and generates a forest. On his turn he creates with Baldur then teleports to the one near Kaelyssa to get into base to base with her. He then makes his initial attack with boosted to hit so that weight of stone triggers, and misses the first shot; he then buys another attack and boosts to hit this time hitting her deals about 8 damage which i use my focus to reduce that to three, and his next two attacks both hit against my def 13 leaving kaelyssa at about 5hp after using my focus to reduce the damage on both attacks.

Manu ends his turn keeping the score at 3-2

So as turn 6 starts im thinking that I now need to take an assassination attempt otherwise I’d lose the next turn; he still has alot of guys that can threaten the assassination. So I upkeep Refuge with Sylys, allocate one focus on the manticore and hope for the best.

First I move Eiyriss back and shoot at Baldur for 3 damage; note at this point Baldur is still full hp but no fury to transfer so I didnt use her to strip focus/fury and this was likely my last turn.

I then activate the last arcanist and maximize focus the manticore. I then walk it up to Baldur hoping to kill him with it but I only manage to deal about half of his HP thanks to poor dice rolls even after 5 attacks. I leave him at about 7 hitboxes.

Kaelyssa finally activates and since I wasnt able to declare a charge due to distance I opted to simply hit him with her sword. I actually spent all 6 focus just trying to kill baldur and only managed to bring him down to 1hp. And Refuge Kae back 3″ thanks to weight of stone’s movement penalty.

At that point I’m thinking I’m dead no focus to negate damage, with Baldur right at my doorstep and his friends not far behind. Then I see Sylys, I think – well if I fail the charge at least i can block the charge from the woldwarden and threaten free strikes from the manticore and Sylys incase Baldur tries to charge the next turn.

So as my last desperate maneuver I declare a charge on Baldur with Syl, and Im thinking it’s almost impossible to hit since I needed 10’s and guess what i rolled excatly 10’s to hit! Still I’m pretty much rolling impossibles since Pow 7 versus arm 16, and I needed another 10 to kill him… I rolled boxcars.

Sylys Wyshnalyrr MVP, Warlock Slayer.

Post Game Thoughts

I think I played at my best that game, aside from the minor mistake of leaving the two light warjacks outside control and forgetting Sylys that one turn I think there wasn’t much else I could do to play better. It was a close game If I didn’t with assasination I’d be up at 4CP but Manu could have assassinated the following turn. Overall good game for both of us.

On a side note I attribute my win to superstition 😛 message me if you wanna know what that superstition is.

Tommorow I’ll be playing another set of games this time I’ll be using Garryth so something new for the readers to expect.

The WarJeepney WarmaHordes MK III massive play test concluded last Sunday 7/24/2016. 9 players dished it out in various fronts in the Iron Kingdoms representing Khador (Karlo and Rainier), Legion of Everblight (Joyce and John), Trollbloods (Jay), Protectorate of Menoth (Ayo and Bong), Cryx (Brian) and Circle Orboros (Noelle).

The diverse battlefields were fought under the different scenarios. The grasslands had a ‘Moshpit’ ongoing. On the colder frontiers of a battered tundra, opposing forces fought to ‘Hold the Line’. Claw and blade clashed while attempting to ‘Outflank’ one another on a blighted field, while a ‘Throwdown’ ensued on a desolate ashen plateau.

Top Faction: Legion of Everblight (4 wins)

Ethrunbal’s kin stands supreme with the assassination of Kommander Sorscha (Karlo), by Saeryn and Rhyhas (John) on the ashen plateau. The successful effort of Absylonia, Terror of Everblight (John) to “Hold the Line’ against Deneghra’s (Brian) swarm of Bane Warriors who had just secured it from Menite (Bong) grasp, increased the Legion’s influence in the area.

The blighted plains saw the defeat of Thagrosh (Joyce) by Kaya (Noel) as the two battlegroups crossed paths. Absylonia, Daughter of Everblight (Joyce) was quick to retaliate and struck back with her beasts killing Morvhana (Noel). On the way to the ashen plateau an encounter with the fleeing forces of Hierarch Severius (Ayo), provided Absylonia (Joyce) the chance to once again exercise her assassin’s instincts.

Runner up Factions: Circle Orboros (2 wins), Cryx (2 wins) and Protectorate of Menoth (2wins)

Circle Orboros

After defeating Thagrosh, (Joyce) Kaya (Noel) heard the news that Morvhana (Noel) was mortally wounded by the Daughter of Everblight (Joyce) within the immediate area. Rushing to her fellow druid’s last known position, she was able to heal Morvhana (Noel), when Madrak (Jay) of the Trollbloods appeared in pursuit of the Menite stragglers. Morvhana (Noel), barely recovered, saw the Trollblood incursion as an insult to her recently sustained injuries. Blinded by fury, she led a handful of troops and beasts against a Mulg and managed to snatch victory from Madrak (Jay) with only an Argus and a lone Skinwalker surviving. Madrak (Jay) has been brutally disabled.

Cryx

A small garrison of Kommander Sorscha’s (Karlo) troops was suddenly overrun by Warwitch Deneghra’s (Brian) Bane minions. The Cryx caster’s (Brian) twisted magic possessed a Man-O-War Kovnik, who proceeded to severely injure the Kommander — enough for a Leviathan to finish her off from afar. Lich Lord Asphyxious (Brian) then proceeded to rampage towards the icy plains: a warband led by the High Reclaimer (Bong) tried their best, but were unable to Hold the Line against the advancing Bane swarm.

Protectorate of Menoth

Trying to lose the Trollblood forces led by Grissel (Jay) who inflicted a disabling strike to Hierarch Severius (Ayo) in an earlier encounter in the grassy plains, misfortune seem to follow Severius’ (Ayo) retinue. An accidental turn led them straight into a Khadoran Border Legion’s patrol commanded by the Butcher (R1). A swift battle ensued as the patrol turned out to be new recruits of the Khadoran army, and Butcher (R1) was forced to step up and took an incapacitating blow. Emboldened by their recent victory, The Hierarch (Ayo), through the grace of the Lawgiver, continues to the ashen plateau only to meet Thagrosh, The Messiah’s (Joyce) forces which advanced into their control zone to meet the Menoth interlopers. Severius (Ayo) destroys the Legionnaires almost single-handedly and create a hazardous region that stops Thagrosh’s advance cold. Thagrosh (Joyce) consolidates in the center field and prepares by casting multiple upkeeps. A Menoth Vanquisher slams Proteus into Thagrosh (Joyce), knocking him down and thus allowing the Hierarch (Ayo) to strip the upkeeps. Thagrosh (Joyce) is blasted by magic and fire but it is the Sanctifier’s Cenotaph that poetically kills the blighted ogrun.

July 29 Battle Report – Vlad1 Vs Kaelyssa epic 100pt battle!

Whats up guys! This is probably the first 100pt game in the country; maybe the world so hopefully its true because it would be a great honor, so strap your selves in for one hell of a ride.

Me and Kim played second at Charlie Does Manila, after JM and Manu’s first 50pt MK3 game. It was initially to prepare for Game’s and Gears 6 week league just to get us acclimated for what would obviously be long grueling games. However I’m not really sure this should count though; Kim put in the Great Bears on his list but forgot to put them on the table; I couldn’t warn him because I didn’t know the calculations we work on a system of trust and we rarely bother checking each others lists before game.

So time for the lists

Pre-Game Thoughts

So this is another simple upgrade to my 75pt list adding in an artificer, an MHA, a third arcanist and a manticore jack-marshalled to the artificer. Initial thoughts we’re play the same way as my 75 pt version and simply adjust for the new additions to the army though I did have my doubts about the 100pt version especially on the Manticore jack marshall. Kim however threw in another curve ball since i was expecting Sorscha1 or Butcher1 to my surprise though he brought out Vlad1 who essentially neuters my ranged superiority; at least within 3″ of the guy. I honestly didn’t know how to counter Vlad’s windwall.

Deployment

Kim plays first and deploys in his usual strong center protected by fast units on the flank. Vlad is sandwiched between Conquest and Behemoth, the greylords protected behind them with the MoW Drakhuns on each flank; its at this point kim forgets to bring out his great bears though. For his AD he puts his block of doom reavers at the center and Eiryiss1 and a manhunter to his left and a widowmaker marksman and a second manhunter on his right.

I deploy with a modified version of my usual list, I put hyperion slightly off center with the sentinels to his left with the artificer slightly behind them and the manticore just barely within command of the Artificer on the hyperion’s left. Kae and the support crew hide behind Hyperion. My Ad is the MHSF right at the center forming a screen, with Eiyriss1 and an MHA to their left and the ghost sniper and Narn to their right.

Turn 1 Summary

Kim moves his doom reavers in a box formation with an open slot up their base speed, Vlad advances to fit that slot and casts Windwall protecting everyone within 3″ of him from my ranged attacks. Behemoth moves up to close the door behind vlad. Conquest advances right behind them. The Greylords move to the behemoth’s left followed by on drakhun and manhunter.  Eiyriss and  the marksman run behind cover on one of the fences, the other drakhun and manhunter simply move up the board

Knowing my MHSF whos role was to eliminate the doomreavers and anyone else in range(which none were at that point) we’re now practically useless I decided to treat them as my personal meatshields so I ran them up the board to block charge lanes and spread them out evenly 5″ apart so none of Kim’s jacks’ large AoE’s could be maximized to full efficiency. I then run hyperion up the board to the right at an angle to contest zones and threaten enemies with my Phantomhunter combo(which was also made useless early game thanks to Vlad). I activate the manticore and use hurry to run him up beside hyperion. I advance the sinper into the forest and take a pot shot at one of the drakhun dealing 3 damage and swift hunter 2″ back thinking the forest would protect him from the manhunter and the drakhun. Narn follows suit but i misinterpret his sprint rule thinking it worked the same way as refuge and throw 2 crossbow shots at the drakhun dealing another 2 damage. I move the MHA up near the forest but behind a fence away from the other drakhun’s charge range. I do the same with eiyriss but cant make a shot due to ranged constraints.  I then run the sentinels up behind the magehunters to prevent kim from using them as his target to hit the MHSF with aoes, I also form diamonds with them to maximize their armor incase he decides to fire those pow 14-15 aoes at them, the arcanists run and hide behind hyperion. Kae advances up casts refuge on herself and blur on the Sentinels to bring their ranged def up to 15, I was hoping the artificer had enough movement to maximize his bubble but since he didn’t i just ran him up between 2 diamonds of sentinels and just barely keeping the manticore within marshalling range.

Turn 2 Summary

This was a massive turn for kim as he nearly eliminated all of my mage hunters in one turn even with their stealth, taking 8 of them out in one turn. He begins this by charging his manhunter into the blocker I placed in front of the doom reavers killing it. He then charges his doom reavers, only three of them reach two of my mage hunter; the one on my right survives thanks to his def 14, his second doom reaver hits the one on my left but misses; however the third doom reaper hits it killing him; however he berseks into the other doom reaver killing it the last doom reaver kills the MHSF on the hill. Kim then activates his uhlan and charges the MHSF commander, killing the one beside him with an impact hit killing the grunt on my left and then his charge attack kills the MHSF UA. Behemoth activates advances 4″ forward and arcs fire twice, once missing one of my MHSF but the blast deviates slightly still catching his initial attack and the odds were stacked againt its armor 11 to the pow 7 blast. His second arcing fire missed the other mage hunter and deviates into my support crew catching Sylys and one arcanist in the blast, Kim boosted to damage against sylys making sure he kills him, and pow 7 against arm 12 of the arcanist was also a pretty easy kill.  His other drakhun runs to engage the ghost sniper hiding in the woods and his other manhunternarn charges narn and kills him while keeping in base contact with the flag. Finally conquest activates moves up the board and spams his covering fire(green tokens are the markers) at all my charge lanes locking me down.

Sorry I forgot to take pictures of my turn 2 but heres how I remember it.

I begin by upkeeping refuge and dropping blur; losing Sylys was a major blow against me. I activate the MHA and charge the doom reaver blocking my MHSF however when I did so I knew she was going to die the next turn. I then Activate Eiyriss, advance her up the board to claim the flag and shoot the other doom reaver on the hill killing it. My MHSF activate the right most remaining MHSF move it up to get better shooting angles against kim’s doomreavers, it fires a shot and kills one of them, the left most couldnt do much so it just engaged the drakhun while getting out of the covering fire’s aoe but did nothing against it. The MHSF unit leader advances forward fires a pot shot at one of the doom reavers but misses. A flash of inspiration hit me as I was reading about jack marshal abilities; luckily the manticore was within range so I decided to activate it, I declare crush advance it to engage the drakhun and do a power attack throw, throwing the drakhun into behemoth dealing a good chunk of damage on it and but my dice roll to damage the drakhun was terrible only dealing 2 damage against it to balance that out. I also manage to catch the manhunter and one more doom reaver in the throw killing them both. Thanks to the throw behemoth gets knocked down however the drakhun has steady so he had no problem with that. I then activate my arcanists and give hyperion 2 focus. Hyperion activates advances just enough not to trigger the drakhun’s counter charge and fires his starcannon on to behemoth, needing 5’s to hit i decide not to boost and boost damage instead. I deal another good chunk of damage and follow up with tresher cannon shots to behemoth but only managed to do minor damage since i only had enough focus to boost twice. I activate Kae next advance her behind the hill o get a shot at behemoth just barely seeing his base and shoot him with a mechanickal seisure bolt hit it and get him stationary. I decide not to boost damage against behemoth’s arm 20 and refuge kae back behind hyperion and activate my feat. Since my Ghost Sniper was engaged I opt to charge the drakhun and that sniper is probably the best melee sniper since I managed to deal 5 damage with a pow 7 weapon on the drakhun; you shall be painted soon good warrior. I activate the Artificer move him up the board; completely forget that he’s immune to blast damage and missing that fraction of an inch even with premeasureing to be able to shoot the manhunter since i was afraid of that pow10 covering fire shots. I activate my sentinels last and declare a run charge order; kept my diamond formations and just ran the guys close enough to get within kaelyssa’s feat range. We both score 1 point.

Turn 3 Summary

Kim allocates two focus to behemoth, shakes off the knockdown and stationary. He activates vlad, pops feat casts signs and portents and moves him beside conquest. He activates his greylords fires off his sprays, first hitting the MHA and Eiyriss missing the shot on the MHA but killing Eiyriss, his second shot is aimed at the MHA alone this time he kills it, the last shot targeted my hyperion hit him and dealt two damage. The manhunter activates and charges the ghost sniper instantly killing it. The wounded drakhun advances to claim the flag. The last doom reaver declares a charge on the Artificer and with weapon master charge AND signs and portents he instantly kills it. The other drakhun advances to engage the second to the last regular mage hunter; not a charge thanks to my feat, to open a path for Behemoth. The drakhun easily kills the mage hunter. Behemoth then activates and under Vlads feat has enough movment to reach the hyperion; he makes his two initial attacks and bought one with focus, thanks to his armor piercing fists he managed to cripple the right side of the hyperion with a little bit of damage on the left; good thing i knocked it down and made it stationary to reduce its focus capacity.Conquest then activates and simply creates more covering fire. The marksman simply advances to get within 5″ of the last mage hunter and finally kills it leaving me with only the unit leader. Kim ends his turn and with me losing eiyriss and drakhun in base to base of the opposite flag the turn ends with our control points 2 to 1 with Kim in the lead.

On my turn I keep upkeeping refuge and dont allocate any on hyperion for this turn. First I activate my two arcanists and repair 6 points of damage on hyperion repairing most of the systems on his right side and removing a few points of damage on his left side. With the free focus from powerup I activate hyperion and proceed to make 2 initial attacks at pow 21 and buy a third, i rolled exceptionally well and managed to kill behemoth with just hyperion. I then activate the manticore thinking I could kill the drakhun with my pow 12 Rofd3 guns but i completely forget about the counter charge special ability on the Drakhun and the manticore gets charged as I move him into base contact with the flag leaving him useless for the turn, and having the flag contested now. I needed to find a way to gain two control points this turn but the covering fire made it very difficult to have any good charge lanes for my sentinels I decided to run the last mage hunter while avoiding the covering fire templates so he didn’t die, sadly thanks to those maneuvering tricks I ended up an inch short to contest the flag; I was desperate at that point. I realized i still had the sentinel’s mini-feat; and with the age old adage of risk it to get the biscuit, I activate the sentinels; pop Iron resolve and declare a run charge order. I knew I had to take acceptable losses so I commit three sentinels to charge the drakhun contesting the middle flag; having to pass through Kim’s covering fire he made 3 damage rolls at pow 10 vs my arm 18 thanks to iron resolve; killing one ofthe sentinels. I commit another two sentinels to contest the flag on my left knowing that I would have to take the counter charge and lose one of them so what happened was I run one through the forest and take the countercharge and lost that guy. I then run the second one inching him as close as possible without getting to the covering fire’s AoE which i do with JUST THE BARE MINIMUM to contest. Finally i activated Kaelyssa moved her up to make sure i reached the greylords with my gun; shot three times and missed the last; it was actually bad for me to miss the last guy since I knew him alone could wreak havoc to my sentinels. Accepting that things like that happen I move Kaelyssa back keeping three focus in case of any possible attacks and claim the flag. I end my turn gaining 2 CP for the turn and our scores are now 3CP to 2 CP in my favor.

Turn 4 Summary

Kim’s turn begins  he allocates two focus to the conquest. At this point I knew kim wanted to kill the banshee and or my hyperion in one turn.First he activates vlad and casts signs and portents and maximizes his control range. He actvated his manhunter and charged the sentinel I used to contest his flag to free up his drakhun. His marksman activates gets into base to base with the flag and shoots the last mage hunter opening up the doom reaver’s charge lane. His Doom Reaver activates and charges the damaged manticore and kills it with 4 dice to damage. His  wounded drakhun activates and charges the three sentinels I had in the middle killing them all with impact attacks and his charge attack. His Eiyriss moves up to claim the middle flag and shoots my soulless killing it instantly, his last greylord activates moves closer to the two sentinels on the hill and fires his spray at them killing them with lucky high rolls. Conquest then moves up 4″ and fires a shot into my hyperion breaking his right side once more. He ends his turn controlling two flags bringing our score to 4 CP to 3 CP in favor of Kim.

This was my do or die moment, if I didnt do well this turn I would lose. The only thing I could think of at this point was upkeep refuge and have Kae take the flag and used venegance to move up the board hopefully to reach a good angle for the sentinels to charge. on the right and to allocate two focus to hyperion and relied to hyperion for everything. I activate my arcanists and repair hyperion bringing back his right side functionallity and removing all damage from his left. Kaelyssa activates and with 4 focus and refuge she advances up shoots the greylord and kills it, buys an attack with reload shoots eiyriss with a boosted to hit and damage roll to make sure she dies; and finally buys an attack on the doom reaver luckily killing it and tough not going off, I then trigger refuge to get back to the flag. If I recall correctly I charged the three remaining sentinels into the drakhun risking the pow10 covering fire shots; I lose one but manage to keep two alive the two charge attacks manage to dismount and kill the drakhun; the photo above likely looks wrong because the hill made it difficult for me to place my sentinels due to its incline, hopefully Kim can confirm or correct this when he gets back online. Finally I advanced my Hyperion to get into base to base with the flag and tried to take a shot at the marksman with my star cannon but missed. At this point I thought I’d lose because we both end up at 5 CP each and the next turn I would have been charged by a fresh conquest; Kim however notes that I would win due to tie breaker because I had hyperion claiming the middle flag and tie breaker rules state that double the army points of all controlling units within 4″ of the flag; whoever has the highest wins; which led to my victory.

Post-game thoughts

I don’t think I’ll be playing another 100pt game any time soon; it was a good thing we didn’t play with a clock i had so many calculations to consider at this point due to the point size and im sure i would have lost to the clock at my turn 3. Overall though I think I did my best safe for forgetting the counter charge and not using my Phantom hunter combo with hyperion; again losing sylys was terrible. I did learn new tactics however, I realized that in case of an enemy with multiple counter-charge units I can use Kaelyssa’s feat to negate that. I’m also pretty sure that the game would have turned out differently if Kim remembered his great bears; we only found out he didn’t put them on the table when I asked for his list to write this article.

Next time im sticking to 50-75pt games to get more games in rather than one long one. Overall good game though.

I also have our 50pt game last Thursday July 28th in the backlog for my batreps but I decided to publish this one first since its a much more unique experience.
