The WarJeepney WarmaHordes MK III massive play test concluded last Sunday 7/24/2016. 9 players dished it out in various fronts in the Iron Kingdoms representing Khador (Karlo and Rainier), Legion of Everblight (Joyce and John), Trollbloods (Jay), Protectorate of Menoth (Ayo and Bong), Cryx (Brian) and Circle Orboros (Noelle).

The diverse battlefields were fought under the different scenarios. The grasslands had a ‘Moshpit’ ongoing. On the colder frontiers of a battered tundra, opposing forces fought to ‘Hold the Line’. Claw and blade clashed while attempting to ‘Outflank’ one another on a blighted field, while a ‘Throwdown’ ensued on a desolate ashen plateau.

Top Faction: Legion of Everblight (4 wins)

Ethrunbal’s kin stands supreme with the assassination of Kommander Sorscha (Karlo), by Saeryn and Rhyhas (John) on the ashen plateau. The successful effort of Absylonia, Terror of Everblight (John) to “Hold the Line’ against Deneghra’s (Brian) swarm of Bane Warriors who had just secured it from Menite (Bong) grasp, increased the Legion’s influence in the area.

The blighted plains saw the defeat of Thagrosh (Joyce) by Kaya (Noel) as the two battlegroups crossed paths. Absylonia, Daughter of Everblight (Joyce) was quick to retaliate and struck back with her beasts killing Morvhana (Noel). On the way to the ashen plateau an encounter with the fleeing forces of Hierarch Severius (Ayo), provided Absylonia (Joyce) the chance to once again exercise her assassin’s instincts.

Runner up Factions: Circle Orboros (2 wins), Cryx (2 wins) and Protectorate of Menoth (2wins)

Circle Orboros

After defeating Thagrosh, (Joyce) Kaya (Noel) heard the news that Morvhana (Noel) was mortally wounded by the Daughter of Everblight (Joyce) within the immediate area. Rushing to her fellow druid’s last known position, she was able to heal Morvhana (Noel), when Madrak (Jay) of the Trollbloods appeared in pursuit of the Menite stragglers. Morvhana (Noel), barely recovered, saw the Trollblood incursion as an insult to her recently sustained injuries. Blinded by fury, she led a handful of troops and beasts against a Mulg and managed to snatch victory from Madrak (Jay) with only an Argus and a lone Skinwalker surviving. Madrak (Jay) has been brutally disabled.

Cryx

A small garrison of Kommander Sorscha’s (Karlo) troops was suddenly overrun by Warwitch Deneghra’s (Brian) Bane minions. The Cryx caster’s (Brian) twisted magic possessed a Man-O-War Kovnik, who proceeded to severely injure the Kommander — enough for a Leviathan to finish her off from afar. Lich Lord Asphyxious (Brian) then proceeded to rampage towards the icy plains: a warband led by the High Reclaimer (Bong) tried their best, but were unable to Hold the Line against the advancing Bane swarm.

Protectorate of Menoth

Trying to lose the Trollblood forces led by Grissel (Jay) who inflicted a disabling strike to Hierarch Severius (Ayo) in an earlier encounter in the grassy plains, misfortune seem to follow Severius’ (Ayo) retinue. An accidental turn led them straight into a Khadoran Border Legion’s patrol commanded by the Butcher (R1). A swift battle ensued as the patrol turned out to be new recruits of the Khadoran army, and Butcher (R1) was forced to step up and took an incapacitating blow. Emboldened by their recent victory, The Hierarch (Ayo), through the grace of the Lawgiver, continues to the ashen plateau only to meet Thagrosh, The Messiah’s (Joyce) forces which advanced into their control zone to meet the Menoth interlopers. Severius (Ayo) destroys the Legionnaires almost single-handedly and create a hazardous region that stops Thagrosh’s advance cold. Thagrosh (Joyce) consolidates in the center field and prepares by casting multiple upkeeps. A Menoth Vanquisher slams Proteus into Thagrosh (Joyce), knocking him down and thus allowing the Hierarch (Ayo) to strip the upkeeps. Thagrosh (Joyce) is blasted by magic and fire but it is the Sanctifier’s Cenotaph that poetically kills the blighted ogrun.

Kromac the Ravenous vs Master Necrotech Mortenebra

01

Last Friday, March 18, 2016, at Makati B&B, JM Fernandez brought up his Cryx led by Master Necrotech Mortenebra against Manu Rabaglia’s Circle Orboros led by Kromac the Ravenous.

Cryx gained 2″ to their deployment zone from Infernal Machines theme army. Mortenebra’s warjacks ran 12″ and ended their movement very close to the table’s mid line. Kromac1 advanced towards the Circle Orboros objective with the Feral Warpwolf and an Argus, while the Shifting Stones shifted into better position. The Warpwolf Stalker advanced into some woods, gaining Prowl. A unit of Warpborn Skinwalkers went to the opposite side of the woods.

02

On the second round, Kromac1 ended the turn with no fury.

04

Deryliss casted Overrun on a Harrower. The Harrower advanced and shot at a Shifting Stone, successfully destroyed it and triggered Overrun. The Deathjack, already far up the board, advanced further via Overrun. Mortenebra casted Terminal Velocity and popped Recalibration. The Deathjack, amped up by a full load of focus and Mortenebra’s spells and feat, charged Kromac1.

05

Master Necrotech Mortenebra victorious over Kromac the Ravenous via casterkill.

Warmachine/Hordes x Guild Ball – Hilltop Masters

Photos by Kim Navarro and Karl Manalo

As part of our ongoing Guild Ball Tour, we held it as part of the Hilltop Masters event that Kensei Yonzon is hosting for Warmachine/Hordes last Saturday, February 27, 2016. Being a Press Ganger and Pundit, not only did I get to play, I helped out with setting up and rules questions (as I regularly do).

As always, Fred Escalona was kind enough to give me a ride that day, and we arrived at the venue on time despite the expected Saturday traffic. There were already some guys who were there earlier – JM Fernandez, Gino Cobarrubias and Karl Manalo – who were there for the Guild Ball gig. Unfortunately, the rest of Wolf Spider Entertainment were unable to attend and I was left with just my Butchers and Fishermen to do a Guild Ball demo. Karl, together with another Warmachine veteran, Harold Soon, participated in my demo and played with my starter teams for their first-hand feel of the game. John Zablan, who also arrived for the Guild Ball gig, also lent a hand with the demo as I was vlogging the event.

Later in the afternoon, the Hilltop Masters was underway. Since it was Masters, I took advantage of the ADR special rules and played with Kommander Sorscha and Supreme Kommandant Irusk. And after three games, I got 3rd Place Hero!

Here were the participants that day:

  • SJ Quema (Trollbloods) 1st Place Champion
  • Kensei Yonzon (Cryx) 2nd Place Warlord
  • Kim Navarro (Khador) 3rd Place Hero
  • Gino Cobarrubias (Retribution of Scyrah)
  • John Lansang (Circle Orboros)
  • JM Fernandez (Cryx)
  • Mike Taroy (Mercenaries)
  • Fred Escalona (Minions)

My first opponent was Kensei and his Cryx. My regret was forgetting to place in Eiryss2, which should have been part of the list. So I played with a 3PC-disadvantage. It turned out to be a very crucial disadvantage as I really wanted to shoot out Goreshade3’s focus, which he camped on heavily for the whole game. It became a slow attrition game between forces, having both Colossals and numerous infantry brought down (although it was my Doom Reavers that did a lot of the killing on both sides with Berserk). In the end, I was outplayed by having my forces too spread out, leaving a zone uncontested, and Kensei winning by control points with just 8 seconds remaining on his clock. Kim’s Khador 0W – 1L.

My second game was against Mike Taroy and his Mercenaries, led by Drake MacBain. I held up his Boomhowler’s with Sorscha1’s Freezing Grip and his Kayazy Assassins with Conquest’s Creeping Barrage. I was caught off-guard with the Counter Measures on his Kayazy Assassins several times, and again, I chopped through both his forces and my own with Berserking Doom Reavers. His clock rang and I won with 3 control points to his 1. Kim’s Khador 1W – 1L.

My last game was against Fred Escalona and his Bloody Barnabas. I was too tired to ADR tailor a list to use against him, so I used the same list in  my game against Mike. With Icy Gaze and Freezing Grip, I managed to deal with his Gatorman Posse, and still keeping my warcaster safely tucked away. Once again, my Doom Reavers were responsible for much bloodshed, sadly a big portion of that also came from my own troops (Yes, I am definitely bringing Fenris to safeguard these fools next time around). Seeing Barnabas in Iron Flesh flanked by his warbeasts, I went for the control game, and Fred tapped out when I got my third control point. Kim’s Khador 2W – 1L.

Super thanks to Kensei Yonzon and his better half, Aila, for having us that day; more so for the very excellent food they served! Yes, Warmachine/Hordes got to shake hands with Guild Ball that day, and even though things could have been better, it was a very good day to game!

For any comments or questions, go ahead and post them below. Thanks for reading! Good luck, have fun and always bring your ace game!
